John Gardner Award winner Art Carmichael, his wife, Jean, and Roy Lave
The John W. Gardner Community Building Awards for Los Altos/Los Altos Hills honors volunteers and showcase volunteer organizations in recognition of their community building efforts in our communities.
It is named for Honorary LACF Founder John Gardner because of his multifaceted contributions to society and his writings on community building.
By invitation, organizations are asked to select an individual to recognize based upon contributions in two of the four areas in which Secretary Gardner deemed to be crucial to strong community building: academic, nonprofit (public benefit), government and arts & letters. Recipients are honored each April during LACF’s Gardner Awards event.
