The longest day of the year is an opportunity to introduce the LACF to prospective founders. A garden party is hosted by the foundation in a different location each June and the event is open to both founders and guests. A brief program describing the current activities of the foundation is held as guests mingle on a terrace or under the trees in the late afternoon. Pictured left is LACF Board member Dennis Young greeting LACF Founders Jack and Carol Kelly at the Summer Solstice 2007 event at the home of Gary and Sherron Kalbach. Live music and entertainment adds to the charm of this gathering.
The 10th Annual Summer Solstice Party will be held on Friday, June 18, 2010 at the Elegant and Environmentally friendly home that Luis Yanez & Gina Chin-Yanez built.

LOS ALTOS & LOS ALTOS HILLS 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION
Shoup Park, located at 400 University Avenue in Los Altos, is the site of the annual Los Altos-Los Altos Hills 4th of July Celebration, coordinated by the Los Altos Community Foundation.
The day begins at 11am with music provided by Ye Old Towne Band, and features a short program which includes music and comments by the Mayors of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills. Former Mayor and Councilmember John Moss will emcee the 2008 event.
The Foundation provides the coordination effort for this event, which in 2008 also enjoyed the support of the Los Altos Town Crier, Ye Olde Town Band, the City of Los Altos, the Los Altos Rotary Club and American Legion Post 558.
FALL BRUNCH
The brunch is another of the original events hosted by LACF. Its purpose is to salute its current founders and highlight innovative programs that are sponsored by the foundation. Held at the Los Altos Country Club on a Sunday morning each October, the brunch features a delicious buffet breakfast followed by remarks from the board chair, the Executive Director and a speaker who discusses an aspect of community building.
'HEART OF THE COMMUNITY GALA" - VALENTINE GALA DINNER DANCE
The Valentine Dance was the first Foundation-sponsored event, designed to offer founders a chance to socialize and get better acquainted. Held each February at the Los Altos Country Club, the evening is an elegant gathering with appetizers and cocktails, a sit-down dinner and dancing. In 2005, a live auction was added to the program as a fundraiser for the Foundation.
The 2010 event was on Friday, February 12th, click here.
JOHN W. GARDNER BUILDING COMMUNITY AWARDS
The Gardner Awards dinner was established in 2004 to honor community volunteerism. Each year a specific list of non-profit organizations are invited to nominate an honoree. Approximately 10 community members receive the Gardner Award each year, at a dinner held in a local hotel. Each nominating organization introduces their honoree to the assembled guests during the dinner program.
