Glorious Fourth Makes A Splash!

With over 400 attendees from Los Altos and Los Altos HIlls, the
Glorious Fourth event at Shoup Park featured: a petting zoo, face
painting, balloon making (on stilts!) and most refreshing, a new
feature of a dunk tank. Our own Paul Gonella, Board Member, offered
up his services as dunkee. They were lining up for a chance to have
him make a splash. Because of the hot day, kids of all ages ended up
wanting to be part of the dunk tank.

A delicious lunch was catered by Armadillo Willys and Paradise Shave
Ice provided much needed cold relief. Ye Olde Towne Band pleased the

A Diverse Crowd Enjoys the
"Island Breezes" Mixer

Showing that anything Hawaiian is extremely popular, the LACF Monthly
Mixer for July was attended by ages 5 to 75. The weather was balmy
and the crowd enjoyed egg rolls, sausages with dipping sauce,
macadamia nuts and fresh fruit kabobs. The sangria (disguised as an
Island Punch) was a big hit on a hot day. (Those of you who wanted a
recipe, please contact Monica and you will get it by e-mail.) The
Gala is the BIG MIXER for August and we will keep you posted on the
September 29th event...

Roaring 20's Gala
LACF Celebrates 20 Years
of Community
WHAT: A Roaring 20’s Gala ~ LACF Celebrates 20 Years of Community
is a community-wide celebration of the Los Altos Community
Foundation (LACF) milestone of serving the Los Altos, Los Altos
Hills, and surrounding areas for twenty years. Funds derived from
the event will go to grants, projects and programs provided by LACF
to strengthen weaknesses and fill gaps in areas of need within our
community, including services to schools, children and teens, our
aging population, and the community at-large.

EVENT DETAILS: The Gala will be held at the magnificent,
architectural masterpiece -,+CA+94022&daddr=12335+Stonebrook+Ct,+Los+Altos+Hills,+CA+94022&hl=en&sll=37.35697,-122.124727&sspn=0.006295,0.006295&view=map&geocode=CRmFPrft2F12FaoFOgIdSYa4-A&t=h&z=17 Stonebrook Court Estate (formerly Morgan Manor & Ford Country Day
School) in Los Altos Hills on the evening of Saturday, August 27th.
The estate is especially well suited to our Roaring 20’s theme,
with an expansive lawn providing the setting for a garden party
reception with live jazz, sit-down dinner and short program, to be
followed by dancing and Casino play in the Grand Ballroom. Guests
are encouraged to embrace the unbridled enthusiasm of the jazz era
and come in costume - , with vintage cars and a photo opportunity to greet you as you begin
to celebrate the Roaring 20’s in style.

WHO: The community is invited to join our Founders (supporters at
the $1,000 level or higher), Board of Directors, members, Honorees,
and local dignitaries, in what will be one of the most stellar
events of the summer.

WHY: In addition to celebrating the past, LACF wishes to also look
to the next 20 years and beyond, and is on a strategic path to
uncover future community needs and interests. We will honor the
past with a retrospective look at our community the last two
decades, as well as look into the future. Additionally, it is
important for us to raise funds for existing programs and to have
reserves to meet unanticipated community needs.

HONOREES: LACF would not be the local community foundation it is if
not for the vision of the following founding men and women who
provided financial resources and leadership: Roger Brunello, Marge &
Mike Bruno, Jean & Art Carmichael, Nancy Geschke, Rick Glaze,
Marion* & Bob Grimm, Dave Heebink*, Sid Hubbard, Elizabeth Joss,
Dianne Gershuny & Ken Kaye *, Penny & Roy Lave, Ginny & King Lear,
Ann & George Limbach, Eric & Pauline Millar, Jean Newton, Liz & Paul
Nyberg, Mary Prochnow, Vicki & Dave Reeder, Jim Reynolds, Denis &
Kristine Salmon, Marie* & Walter* Singer, Louise & Denny* Spangler,
Mary & Gene* van Tamelen, Dennis Young, and Jo Zschau. Come applaud
their vision of an improved, informed, responsive, and connected
community. *indicates deceased

LACF Celebrates Twenty Years
with a New Website
After toiling away on the new website - for a few months, we went
live in late July. We think it is a great update over the look and
feel of the old site.We moved over from Drupal to WordPress because
Wordpress is more nimble and has stronger developer support. The new
site is going to be kept up to date.We are already seeing the results
of our efforts in our Google Analytics reports. We hope the site will
draw more of the Los Altos/Hills community into the family.Currently
you can purchase tickets directly from the website (see link in the
Gala article above). We will not have paper tickets for the event.
Please bring a copy of your confirmation email to the event. What we
need from you:If you are involved with groups and you have photos
from different events, please contact the webmaster, Hank Drew - . We want the site to look vital with lots of
colorful images. As with all things web related, we consider the site
ready for human consumption, but still in beta. Hank is busy updating
the looks of the site and adding new features.
