Challenge Team of Mountain View, Los Altos and Los Altos Hills selects Roy Lave as Youth Champion of the Year

Roy Lave Exec Director of The Los Altos Community FoundationOn Thursday, March 14th, members of the Challenge Team of Mountain View, Los Altos and Los Altos Hills selected Roy Lave as the Youth Champion of the Year. Ricky Juarez of Los Altos high school was also selected as a Student Champion. Both will be recognized at the Challenge Team’s annual fundraising breakfast on May 8th.

The Challenge Team is a community-based, non-profit partnership of students, school districts, police departments, community organizations, parent, health care, and faith-based groups that collaborate to bring positive influences into the lives of youth and guide them away from alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and gang activities.

Lave, a longtime resident of Los Altos, has started and/or fostered numerous programs for youth as the volunteer Founding Chair and CEO of the Los Altos Community Foundation. These programs include Youth Philanthropy, Family Philanthropy, and the MVLA Community Scholars program. Past programs that operated under the umbrella of the Foundation include Partners for New Generations, Los Altos Alliance for Youth, and CHASE.

In addition, the Foundation’s Community Grants program has made grants to most of the organizations serving youth in the community including ALearn, Childrens’ Health Council, CHAC, Community School of Music and Art, CSA, , Hidden Villa, JustRead, Los Altos High School (many programs), Mountain View High School (numerous programs), Los Altos School District (teacher grants, Living Classroom), Music for Minors, Peninsula Bridge, Peninsula Youth Theatre, Westwind 4-H Riding, and the YMCA.

Previously Roy served as Mayor and City Councilperson for the City of Los Altos, and a Commissioner on both the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and the Santa Clara County Transportation Commission. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Bus Barn Stage Company Theatre and has served on the Boards of the Moscow-Santa Clara County Sister County Program, Los Alto Sister Cities, the Rotary AIDS project, the Los Altos Rotary Club where he also served as president.
