A year ago, I walked into the Community House (LACF’s office) and asked my team to drop everything and start work on the launch of LACF’s 2020 Nonprofit Relief Fund (which provided critical support to local nonprofit organizations and services affected early on by the pandemic). Our community came together in an amazing response that raised nearly $1.4M.

Today, I come to you to ask for your help again in supporting our local nonprofit community as we move into the post-pandemic recovery phase and launch LACF’s 2021 Nonprofit Recovery Fund. This new Fund has been created in response to an unprecedented rise in applications to our most recent spring grants cycle.

Typically, we receive 25-30 proposals, so we had budgeted $140,000 for this grant round. Instead, last week we received proposals from 60 organizations requesting $360,000. Clearly, this signals tremendous need from our local nonprofit sector as it begins to reemerge from the pandemic and moves into the recovery phase.

We are now asking you — our new and long-term supporters — to help us bridge this $220,000 gap by making a donation to the Fund now to help support these organizations working in our communities.

This is new territory for us. As we launch this Fund, we’re also preparing for our spring fundraising campaign to raise the additional funds LACF needs to meet our own annual goal and sustain our operations. With this in mind, the 2021 Nonprofit Recovery Fund campaign will run for three weeks starting Friday, March 12, through Friday, April 2. All contributions will increase the budget our review committee uses in awarding grants to local nonprofit organizations.

If you normally donate to LACF’s spring campaign, I hope you will consider adding to your gift by funding both campaigns. If you have a donor-advised fund, I hope you’ll consider joining the #HalfMyDAF 2021 opportunity.

In either case, please join us in supporting LACF’s 2021 Nonprofit Recovery Fund! Together we can put our local nonprofits in the best position to reemerge from the pandemic and help rebuild our communities moving forward.

Thank you for your consideration and support.
