At Los Altos Community Foundation, engaging community through leadership training, volunteerism and mentorship, is core to what we do – and encourages civic engagement, creates new leaders and builds community.
LACF’s managed programs empower individuals to become active community members and engage in the philanthropy that inspires them.
- Leadership Education Advancement (LEAD) program participants learn about the local municipal, nonprofit, school, hospital, and business organizations that drive our community and meet their leaders. Since 1995, many of the 400 LEAD graduates have run for and/or been on City Council, school board, commissions, nonprofit boards, or assumed nonprofit leadership roles.
- Los Altos Block Action Team (BAT) has close to 200 trained leaders that help build neighbor-to-neighbor relationships and promote emergency preparedness, crime prevention, and senior support. To date, over 1500+ Los Altos households have been served by this program.
- E3 Youth Philanthropy engages an annual cohort of 25 high school students in the basic tenets of philanthropy and service. Through this experience the students learn empathy, values, nonprofit success factors, and grantmaking – all skills that will make them better leaders of tomorrow.
- Los Altos Dispute Resolution Service offers free conflict management seminars and confidential mediation services to help community members resolve individual and community disputes.
You can participate in one or more of LACF's managed programs! Just click on the above program links to find out how.
In addition to the above programs, LACF offers many volunteer opportunities on its committees, board, or incubated programs. In the last year, LACF’s committees and programs provided opportunities for over 300 community members to volunteer and make our community a better place.
Thanks to strong community support, LACF has developed an incredible network of donors, volunteers, organizations, and relationships. To us, engaging community means providing rewarding experiences that bring the community together in a way that would not happen otherwise.
