About Our Grantmaking

As a local grantmaker, LACF primarily aligns its local funding with nonprofits and public entities based in – or directly serving – the communities of Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, and Mountain View. We also work with our donors and donor advised fund holders on giving opportunities in the greater Bay Area, the state, and beyond.

Funding for our Community Grants and E3 Youth Philanthropy programs comes from our local funding partners and our donors. The MVLA Scholars program directly raises its funding from local donors.

Grants Impact

In FY20, LACF, through its programs and funds, awarded $2.5 million in grants and scholarships to organizations serving Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, and Mountain View, and scholarships to 174 local students. These grants addressed the needs of those most vulnerable in our community and helped youth succeed in school. Awarded grants supported:

  • Youth and education
  • Vulnerable populations
  • Health and safety programs
  • Local arts and culture organizations
  • Environmental efforts
  • Seniors
  • Local community building

COVID-19 Response

In 2020, as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, LACF also established several emergency and relief programs for local nonprofits, small businesses, and individuals. Collectively, those funds have distributed more than $1.1M to those in need in our communities.
